Common Type of Flying Insects

The main flying insect pests encountered here in Cayman would be the following

House Fly (Musca domestica)

This is a common fly found in large numbers after rain and often become a nuisance in your homes or restaurants.

Fruit Fly (Drosophila melanogaster)

You will see this fly if fruit is left out and as soon as it goes off fruit flies appear as if from nowhere.

Drain Fly (Psychodidae sps)

This fly is mainly found in commercial kitchens where it breeds in dirty drains or any standing dirty water.

Bees (Apis mellifera)

Honey Bees normally do not bother the homeowner but on occasion they may make a hive in a house after swarming.

Mosquitoes

These are a way of life in the Cayman Islands and are especially bad after rain.

Indian Meal Moth (Plodia interpunctalis)

These moths feed on cereals and may be found mainly in warehouses and supermarkets.

Wasps Treatment

  • Paper wasp (Polistes spp.)
